Work on a new commercial centre in the heart of Greater Brighton is about to begin.

Studio Egret West is working with developer U+I, as well as Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Brighton, to create a Central Research Laboratory (CRL) at Preston Barracks.

Plans for the Central Research Laboratory at Preston Barracks in Brighton

The 50,000 sqft scheme aims to cement Brighton’s position as one of the best places in the world to be an entrepreneur and an inventor.

Contractors GRAHAM have been appointed to build the CRL, a project which is geared towards small businesses and start-ups, providing a variety of flexible workspaces, as well as prototyping facilities, events spaces and a landscaped roof garden.

Anticipated to complete in 2019, the CRL marks the first phase of works on the overall Preston Barracks masterplan, which will transform a Georgian army barracks site into new homes and a rejuvenated university campus.
