About the map

This interactive map brings together publicly available data on scaled energy decarbonisation activity across Sussex, including information from government and electricity network operator open data sources. It provides a consolidated regional view of projects and assets that are helping shape Sussex’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient and more locally powered energy system.

The map is designed to help partners, communities, businesses and decision-makers:

  • showcase energy and decarbonisation activity taking place across Sussex;
  • inspire replication of successful projects in other places; and
  • build public awareness of the region’s energy transition.

By making regional activity more visible, Sussex Energy aims to strengthen Sussex’s identity as a leading place for the energy transition, supporting greater collaboration, investment and local value from the work taking place across the region.

Development status and feedback

This map is an initial version developed through a limited-time student project. It has been created to demonstrate how open energy and decarbonisation data could be brought together into a single regional view.

At this stage, there is not dedicated capacity to actively maintain or further develop the map. However, Sussex Energy would welcome feedback on any issues, gaps, errors or suggested improvements via our  Sussex Energy Decarbonisation Projects Map – Feedback Form  These will be logged and if capacity becomes available in the future will be reviewed.

How to navigate the map

This map has been optimised for computer screens, we would recommend viewing the map on a desktop or laptop.

Clicking on the layers icon on the map as shown in the screenshot below, allows you to change between data sets displayed on the map. The default data set is energy decarbonisation projects, shown as points on the map. However, there are also map layers showing the density of solar installations (shown by constituency, not individual point data) and public EV charger data (shown at a Local Authority level rather than individual point data). There are two types of EV data – total number of public EV chargers vs number of public EV chargers per 100,000 population. This is important because infrastructure requirements will depend on the population size.

How to navigate Energy Decarbonisation Projects map layer

Click on the individual points for a pop up to appear. You can scroll within this to see more information about the project.

  1. On the top bar there are filters to allow the projects shown to be filtered by status (e.g. operational or planned) or by capacity.
  2. On the right side there is a key showing how the colours and shapes of the map points relate to different project types (e.g. solar, wind, etc.) and the sizes of the points varies with the capacity. There is a table on the right showing the project types and how many are displayed. To filter by a project type, click in this table.
  3. The bar and line graph relate only to energy decarbonisation project data and don’t change if other layers of the map (such as public EV chargers) are displayed. By clicking on the place names in these graphs, you can filter the map by location.
  4. On the left side there is a search bar to look for specific projects.

Data sources

This dashboard uses data extracted in May/June 2026 from several official UK open data sources, listed in the table below. The datasets are publicly available and have been processed and adapted for mapping and dashboard analysis by Sussex Energy.  The dashboard contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

This map does not imply endorsement by the data providers. Users should refer to the original dataset pages for full licence terms, update dates and source information.
