Charleston logoCharleston became a focal point for the 20th Century radical artists, writers and thinkers who were known collectively as the Bloomsbury group.

Each May the site near Lewes now plays host to a festival of leading and emerging artists, writers and thinkers, with speakers on a broad range of topics and themes over 10 days.

Among those taking part in the 2022 event were Hollywood actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Hayley Attwell and Simon Callow, politician Lord Mandelson, journalist Emily Maitlis and president of the Supreme Court Lady Hale.
