When Anita Roddick founded The Body Shop in 1976 it was as a single small shop in Brighton selling a range of 25 products in reusable bottles with handwritten labels.
Her vision was to sell products that were ethically-sourced, free from animal testing and made with natural ingredients.
That single outlet has mushroomed into a cosmetics and skin care empire that employs around 10,000 people, offering a range of 1,000 products sold in about 3,000 stores across more than 60 countries around the world.
But with a global office in Littlehampton, The Body Shop has retained its roots in Sussex and has continued with the campaigning ethos of its founder, in particular in fighting to empower women and girls all over the world.
